
An Introduction to Counseling on Access to Lethal Means
Learn collaborative, compassionate approaches to reducing access to lethal means during times of crisis. Participants will practice engaging in safety planning conversations designed to protect life while respecting autonomy.
Objectives
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the role of lethal means safety in suicide prevention
2. Recognize when means counseling is appropriate
3. Use direct, person-centered language to discuss suicide and safety
4. Identify practical ways to reduce access to firearms and medications
5. Work collaboratively to create safety-focused plans
