A Cultural Competency Training

This training equips behavioral health professionals with practical, trauma-informed strategies for supporting LGBTQIA+ individuals. Participants build cultural competency, understand identity and minority stress, and strengthen affirming communication skills to reduce unintentional harm and create safer, recovery-oriented care environments.

Objectives

1. Demonstrate the use of inclusive and affirming language that supports LGBTQIA+ individuals and promotes psychological safety.
2. Describe the impact of minority stress, stigma, and discrimination on engagement, behavioral health, and recovery outcomes.
3. Apply trauma-informed principles to create welcoming, person-centered interactions that promote trust, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.
4. Respond effectively to disclosures related to identity and lived experience using affirming communication and culturally responsive practices.
5. Identify opportunities to reduce unintentional harm and strengthen inclusion through everyday communication, advocacy, and recovery-oriented support.
